Three recent Loyola graduates receive distinguished Fulbright Awards
Three members of Loyola鈥檚 Class of 2025鈥擯atrick Boyle, Maeve Martineau, and Evy Ryan鈥攚ere awarded prestigious Fulbright Awards to spend one year abroad.
鈥淟oyola inspires students to 鈥榣earn, lead, and serve in a diverse and changing world,鈥� and Patrick, Maeve, and Evy are using their Loyola education to do exactly that,鈥� said Terre Ryan, Ph.D., Loyola鈥檚 director of national fellowships. 鈥淭hey are extraordinary individuals, and it was a pleasure and honor to work with them.鈥�
Boyle, a native of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, will spend the 2025-26 academic year in Spain as an English teaching assistant. A four-year member of Loyola鈥檚 men鈥檚 swimming and diving team, he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration, with a double major in leadership and organizational effectiveness and Spanish and a minor in Latin American and Latino studies.
鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to the opportunity to show my students where learning a second language can take them, not only career wise, but also in terms of meeting new people and building bridges,鈥� shared Boyle. 鈥淢y Loyola study abroad experience in Spain opened my eyes to the beauty of intercultural exchange and the value of building cross-cultural friendships, which is something that I hope to expand on during my Fulbright year and inspire my students in La Rioja to do as well.鈥�
At graduation, Boyle received the Alfons and Christine Renk Language Medal in Spanish. This Spring, he was also awarded the Modern Languages and Literatures Award of Excellence. A member of multiple honors societies at Loyola, Boyle plans to pursue a master鈥檚 degree in Spanish education after completing his Fulbright experience.
Martineau, who was born in Warwick, Rhode Island, will spend the 2025-26 academic year in Bulgaria as an English teaching assistant, including serving as a coach for the Bulgarian English Speech and Debate Tournaments. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a minor in international business. A member of Loyola鈥檚 Honors Program, she was inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa. She plans to pursue a career in international law, with a focus on juvenile justice and education rights.
鈥淚 am most looking forward to building relationships with students and bringing creativity into my classroom through lesson development,鈥� said Martineau. 鈥淏eyond teaching, I cannot wait to explore the natural beauty of Bulgaria and the Balkan region alongside members of the Fulbright Bulgaria cohort.鈥�
Evy Ryan, from Lafayette, New York, will spend the 2025-26 academic year in the Czech Republic as an English teaching assistant. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English and classical civilization and a minor in theology. She was in the Honors Program, Phi Beta Kappa, and Alpha Sigma Nu, and the honors societies for English, classical civilizations, and theology. She plans to pursue an advanced degree in library and information science.
